An Immigration officer in the Upper West region killed

An Immigration Service Personnel shot dead in the late evening of Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Kokoligu, a village in the Nandom municipality of the Upper West region. The regional Public Affairs Officer of Immigration, Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu, stated in a release that the said officer (AICO I Michael Otu) is with the Operation Conquest Fist (OCF) at the Hamile detachment while on a nightshift on the Ghana-Burkina Faso border before his tragic death.

The GIS say a Preliminary investigation revealed that the officer had had six gunshots from the rear by his attackers likely suspended to be smugglers. it further established that the fallen officer might have had a struggle with his assailants preceding his slain. His body was discovered under a bridge whilst his motorbike and helmet were found some 100 meters away from the remains.

It was further revealed that his weapon was taken away from him by his assailants. In the company of the Hamile Defence Intelligence and the Police Commander, the body of AICO I Michael Otu was deposited at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Hospital in Nandom awaiting Doctor’s report.

The GIS Regional Command has stated that it is working with Defense Intelligence and Police to bring the perpetrators to justice.
