Severe punish is awaiting MMDCS who are engaging in illegal mining- Nana Addo
The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disclosed that severe punish is awaiting any Municipal and District Chief Executives who are engaging in illegal mining.
The president says he will not sit aloof for his appointees to compromise on the very fight his government waged on galamsey.
President Akuffo Addo said this during a meeting with some 90 Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives whose areas are known for galamsey activities
“You are my representatives in each of your Municipalities and Districts, you are the representatives of the President and so therefore it cannot be that the president at the national level is waging a war against galamsey and his appointees at the local level are compromising the efforts, that cannot be”
“I want you all to note that, this galamsey fight is a struggle i take very serious, and i will not be in the position to protect any individual against whom evidence is proven that he or she is part of the galamsey problem in his or her area”
President Akuffo Addo while addressing the MMDCEs in the first session of thier engagement at Kumasi on Wednesday October 5,2022 appealed to all the 90 appointees to help government bring finality to the illegal mining activities in Ghana.
Meanwhile while the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development Hon Dan Botwe disclosed that all the 90 MMDCEs have already submitted a comprehensive reports on galamsey activities in theirs areas to government.
The report according to him captured the areas where illegal mining wad prevalent, people involved and what they have ben able to do about it.
He noted that the report will help government to develop new strategies in the galamsey fight.
