IGP visits Apromoase over Police’s death in fire outbreak

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has visited Apomoase Barracks following the tragic death of a police officer and his family during a fire incident.

The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service have commenced investigations into the in the fire disaster that killed a police officer and his two family member at Apromoase in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, 36, together with his wife, Yaa Achiaa,32, and their three-month-old baby lost their lives in a tragic fire incident.

The fire which reportedly started around 11:30 p-m on Sunday January 15,2023, razed down the entire five bedroom self contained  apartments housing the deceased family.

Following the incident, the Inspection-General of Police (IGP), Dr Goerge Akuffo Dampare visited the area to commiserated with families and those who were affected by the fire.

The IGP during the visit assured the victims that, the police administration will join GNFS to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We are in this together, we feel your pain and that’s the reason why i had to travel all they way from Accra to see you in person “.

“Let me assure you that, there will be a joint investigation between the Police and GNFS to bring finality to this matter and see how best we can assist you”.

“Just as you are shattered about this incident, we are shocked too, and the best way to express our feelings is to come and console you”.

The IGP said police officers who are living in the remaining apartments will to evacuated with immediate effect as part of precautionary measures.

He added that the police administration will provide the necessary financial and emotional support for all affected victims to bring them back to their feet.
