NPP warns members to desist from commenting on issues regarding Manhyia Palace
The ruling New Patriotic Party( NPP), has banned all party communicators and members from commenting on any issue relating to the Manhyia Palace and the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.
The leadership of NPP has also directed members to cease any discussions around chiefs in the Ashanti Region.
The decision according to the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, is to ensure no member of the party say something to disrespect any chief in the region.
He disclosed that, no member of the party can go on radio, television, Facebook, WhatsApp or any social media platform to discuss chiefs in the Ashanti Region
The chief scribe of the party said this during a press conference at Kumasi on Monday January 22, 2024.
Justin Kodua during his address maintained that the NPP understands the key role traditional authorities in the region play in Ghana’s development adding that no individual irrespective of his or her position the party has the power to undermine the importance of chiefs in Ghana.
He noted that, the NPP as a political party know where they are coming from , where they started and how the party has become one of the powerhouses in Ghana’s political architecture, adding that, the party will always recognize the existence of traditional authorities in the country and give them the maximum respect
,”Throughout our rich history as a party, the NPP has always shown maximum respect to all traditional rulers across the country, particularly in the Ashanti Region “. He said.
The ban comes after the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP Bernard Antwi Boasiako branded in political circles as Chairman Wontumi was reported to have allegedly said some derogatory words about the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.
The NPP chairman has since come under intensed pressure after some media houses published the said unprinterble words about the Asante King.
Although Chairman Wontumi has vehemently denied saying anything to disrespect the Asantehene, Justin Kodua said the NPP is currently liaison with officials of the Manhyia Palace to get the right thing done.
