Emmanuel Tweneboah Kodua, General Secretary of Asante Youth Association (AYA

A famous youth group whose interest is to see the development of Asanteman  by name Asante Youth Association (AYA) is urging the Governing Council at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to manage the unhealthy issues coming up at the University.

The group called on the Governing to take interest in the law suit pending before a Kumasi High Court and deal it same very well.

The Group also asked the Council to act in ways that would bring down the simmering tensions at the University.

Speaking to the media on Thursday Morning, General Secretary of AYA, Emmanuel Tweneboah Koduah said the group is worried that the only premier University in Asanteman was going through moments whose issues should not have been in the public domain.

“I am surprised that after endorsing the extension of the mandate of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, the Governing Council with its Chairman, a former Chief Justice is allowing this unhealthy development in the prestigious University at a time the Chancellor, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is away”, the General Secretary stated.

Issues:

The Secretary wondered why after following all due processes in extending the mandate of Prof Rita Akosua Dickson for a further two years, the Council has allowed someone who has a dubious identity and has been challenged by the Global Alumni President, Kwaku Agbesi as not having locus to come through the window with a lawsuit against the University, the Governing Council and the Vice Chancellor.

He noted that AYA followed through the processes leading to the Governing Council’s endorsement of the extended mandate for the Lady Vice Chancellor, who had fulfilled all requirements.

Mr Koduah said if there was anything wrong with the documents or processes the Prof Rita Dickson used, the Council, would have nullified her application.

“I am very surprised that after the necessary advertisements were placed in the newspapers as stipulated by the statutes governing the application process, this “dubious” Ohene Asare chap is still accusing both the University and the Governing Council for not following through due processes”, Mr Koduah stressed.

Charge:

The General Secretary has therefore charged the Governing Council to be straight forward with the case in court and establish solid arguments to convince the judge to dismiss the injunction before same.

AYA, the GS noted was aware of the personal interests of some persons on the University Council but asked them to shelve same and seek for the forward movement of all academic activities at Asanteman’s choicest and treasured tertiary outfit, the KNUST.
