Plaintiffs Agree To Withdraw Case Against KNUST Council, VC

Professor Rita Dickson, Vice-Chancellor, KNUST.

Isaac Mensah, staff of 26 years experience at KNUST Stores  Department and Clement Ohene Asare, an Alumni of KNUST who have filed separate legal suits at the Kumasi High Court against the Governing Council as well as the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Friday agreed to withdraw the pending cases from the courts.

This latest development comes from the intervention of the Overlord of Asanteman who doubles as the Chancellor of the Kumasi based prestigious tertiary outfit at a meeting.

The two persons had separately filed suits challenging the procedure used to extend the mandate of the Vice-Chancellor, Rita Akosua Dickson for an additional two years after finishing her first term on August 1.

Both had separately argued that the Governing Council erred in approving the extension and did not use the regulations as stipulated in the Constitution governing KNUST.

Resolution:

However, credible sources at the meeting called last Friday at the instance of the Overlord of Asanteman said the King after hearing from the plaintiffs asked that the matters be withdrawn from the courts.

The source indicated that the King expressed satisfaction with the procedures the governing council used in approving the mandate extension of Professor Rita Dickson.

According to our source, the King then asked that the two withdraw the pending cases since the mandate extension was legal and procedurally legitimate.

The King, the source revealed, has asked that disagreements and misunderstandings should henceforth be handled in-house so that there will be no grounds for disruptions in academic work as well as the smooth running of the choicest University in Ghana.

Closure:

Some analysts who spoke to this reporter believe that the latest intervention by the Asante Overlord would bring closure to the matters at KNUST and the courts.

Others also believe that by this singular act of the King, sanity would now prevail at the campus of KNUST.

Meanwhile, lecturers recruitment processes that had been on hold due to the ongoing feud have started.

Many who applied to take up appointments and to undergo interviewing have gotten the opportunity to appear before the panel.

Currently, the students/ lecturers ratio at KNUST is not ideal and our source said the board and management were working together to bridge the gap to ensure optimum results.
