BCI boss advocates for sustained attention and education on breast cancer awareness

President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, has advocated for sustained attention and education on breast cancer awareness throughout the year.

She said momentum must be maintained and people must continue being educated about risk factors, screening, and treatment options for the disease.

While October’s pink-themed campaigns have helped raise significant awareness, Dr Wiafe Addai argued that the fight against breast cancer requires a year-round commitment.

Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai said this during her engagement with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana Chapter of Women in Aviation, Ghana Airport Company limited, and the staff of Delta Air Lines at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

The event, held on Thursday, October 31, by the the Ghana Chapter of Women in Aviation, in collaboration with Delta Air Lines, and Breast Care International (BCI), was to climax Breast Cancer October Pink Month.

Clinical free breast cancer screening was held by the staff of Peace and Love Hospitals in Kumasi and Accra.

According to Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, it is estimated that Ghana records more than 4,000 breast cancer cases, with an estimated death rate of 2,300, annually.

With this, she also stressed for urgent need for the country to make breast cancer education and awareness a daily discussion to avert the situation.

“We appreciate the outpouring of support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but we need to keep the conversation going,” Dr Wiafe Addai said.

“Every day, women are diagnosed, treated, and fighting to overcome this disease. We can’t afford to forget about them after October,” she emphasized.

Dr Wiafe Addai stated that early detection and treatment are critical in improving survival rates. Regular clinical screening and self-exams can save lives,” she said.

Delta Airlines pledge

The Operations Service Manager at Delta Airlines, Sarah Djabaki Annan, on behalf of the airline pledged full commitment to championing breast cancer awareness initiatives by the Breast Care International (BCI).

She stated that Delta Airlines for the past 12 years has focused on providing resources, education, and support to those affected by breast cancer, through BCI.

“This commitment reflects our ongoing fight against the disease and our strong belief in the importance of awareness, early detection, and proactive care,” Sarah Djabaki Annan said.

“Delta’s dedication to breast cancer awareness extends far beyond Ghana. With an investment exceeding $20 million in the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, funding over 80 research projects; Delta stands in solidarity with employees, partners, and customers to create a lasting impact,” she pledged.

Women in Aviation International, Ghana chapter, commends BCI

National Treasurer for the Women in Aviation International, Ghana chapter, Cynthia Kukah, in her address, commended Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai of BCI for consistently demonstration and commitment as a frontline warrior in the noble campaign against breast cancer.

“Her unwavering dedication and partnership with Women In Aviation International, Ghana Chapter and Delta Air Lines over the years have been instrumental in raising awareness and providing free screening services,” she said.

“Through her tireless efforts, she has successfully created a profound impact by disseminating vital information and fostering a greater understanding of this critical health issue among Ghanaian women, men, and our youth,” Cynthia Kukah stated.
