Election 2024: Kumasi Central Corps of the Salvation Army Church organizes a peace concert

Kumasi Central Corps of the Salvation Army Church in the Ashanti region has organized a peace concert ahead of the country’s elections on December 7, 2024.

The event is part of the church’s broader effort to foster peace, unity, and mutual understanding before, during, and after the general elections.

The theme, “Seek Peace and Pursue It—Psalm 34:14,” brought together individuals from all political parties who shared a commitment to unity in diversity.

Held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, the church paraded through some principal streets in Kumasi and was followed by a concert at the church premises at Ashanti New Town.

Political parties’ representatives and security personnel gave assurance of peaceful messages, and intercessory prayers were said by the clergy for peaceful elections.

Corps Officer of the Kumasi Central Corps of the Salvation Army Church, Major Asare Bediako Tawiah, in his lead sermon urged politicians to strive to maintain unity and avoid divisive language.

He reminded them that their words and actions have the power to either unite or divide people, which in effect affects the peaceful atmosphere in the country.

“Politicians must avoid hate speech that has the tendency of plunging the country into chaos, but instead focus on issues that promote the common good of the people,” said Major Asare Tawiah.

On the youth, Major Asare Bediako Tawiah cautioned them against being used by politicians to incite political violence in their communities.

He also advised them to reject any attempt by political leaders to persuade them to engage in election-related violence before, during, and after the polls.

“If someone wants you to engage in political violence, ask them to send their children to perform the dirty work for them. Do not do anything in exchange for your valuable life,” he stated.
