A/R: Ghana Water Company Workers Threaten Shutdown Over Demolition of Properties
Workers of the Ghana Water Company have threatened to shut down all five major water treatment plants in the Ashanti Region in protest of the demolition of properties belonging to the company by private developers.
This comes after some private developers destroyed the fence wall of the company’s guest house and other residences of top managers in the Ashanti Region.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, the workers stated that they will lay down their tools if the problem is not resolved immediately.
According to Emmanuel Opkoti, Vice Chairperson for the Ashanti Division Union of GWCL, the workers will be forced to halt operations if the problem is not resolved by Friday.
In an interview with OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng, Opkoti emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the workers will not hesitate to take drastic action if their concerns are not addressed.
The potential shutdown of the water treatment plants could have significant consequences for the region, leaving thousands of residents without access to clean water.
