Tension is rising at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, as the re-collation of parliamentary election results for four constituencies continues under tight security.
The constituencies involved—Suhum, Nsawam, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia—are facing disputes over the initial collation process in the Eastern Region.
The exercise, overseen by the Electoral Commission (EC), was moved to Tesano after efforts to finalize the collation in the Eastern Region failed.
The relocation has raised concerns among stakeholders, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose representatives have questioned the process’s fairness and transparency.
Critics, including the NDC, argue that relocating the collation undermines the credibility of the electoral process. In contrast, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has defended the EC’s actions, asserting that the move is necessary to ensure order and accuracy.
Speaking to Citi News’ reporter Fred Duhoe, Peter Boamah Otokunor, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, described the situation as deeply concerning.
“We were invited to the National Police Training School to continue with the collation and incidentally, our executives from Nsawam and Suhum were here except Akwatia when I got here, they had started the exercise without them and I asked how could you do a collation exercise without the other side and so I asked that they stop the process because that is unlawful.
“I went to the Regional EC Director and pleaded with him to give me two hours to bring the Akwatia officers here and he refused and said it was order from above.”
