I’ll ensure regional balance of military recruitment – Omane Boamah

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister-designate, has promised to promote equity in the recruitment process for the Ghana Armed Forces and other security services to ensure regional balance and fairness.
Speaking before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 28, Dr Omane Boamah emphasized the importance of creating an equitable system that addresses geographical disparities during military recruitment and medical assessments.
He highlighted the advantage enjoyed by potential recruits in Accra due to the proximity of 37 Military Hospital.
To address this imbalance, Dr Omane Boamah pledged to explore measures that would make medical assessments and other recruitment procedures accessible to candidates across all regions.
His commitment aims to create a transparent and inclusive recruitment system that upholds fairness and provides equal opportunities for candidates regardless of their location.
“I’m a student of equity and we will ensure that all the principles of equity are applied to the procedures that the recruitment process follows. For example, if somebody is in the Upper West region, and the person is going to be enlisted or recruited. How does the person go through medicals? If somebody is in the Upper East, same.
“If somebody is in Accra, obviously the person may have a certain advantage. 37 Military Hospital is just right here. And so, we will look at all the equity principles to ensure that regional balance is attained.”
