Chaos at Council of State election; Ghanaweb reporter, media personnel beaten up

A violent altercation erupted at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council during the Council of State election, leaving several media personnel severely injured.

The incident occurred while the Electoral Commission was sorting out votes.

Eyewitnesses reported that a group of machomen stormed the premises, attacking journalists and causing chaos.

The injured media personnel were later identified as coming from various outlets, including Angel Fm , LAWSON Media , OYEREPA, EZRA, and GHANAWEB.

Gideon Peprah, a journalist from GHANAWEB, recounted his harrowing experience, detailing how he was brutally beaten by the assailants.

 Other journalists present at the scene were forced to flee for their lives.

The attack on media personnel has raised concerns about the safety of journalists covering sensitive events.

The incident has also sparked outrage among media organizations and civil society groups, who are demanding swift action against the perpetrators.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident, promising to bring those responsible to justice.
