The Northern regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has strongly condemned the assault on two journalists by military personnel in Walewale.
The journalists, Alhassan Dokurugu of Asaase Radio and Tahiru Ibrahim of Zaa Multimedia, were reportedly attacked while covering an incident involving a bus that had been set ablaze.
The assault took place at Nalerigu Junction in the North East Region, allegedly in the presence of police officers.
In a statement issued on Thursday (13 February 2025), the GJA described the attack as a violation of press freedom and a breach of the journalists’ fundamental human rights.
The association has called on the military command to identify and discipline the officers responsible for the act.
The Northern regional chairman of the GJA, Yakubu Abdul-Majeed, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to protecting journalists and urged officials to ensure that justice is served.
