KSTU Lecturer Calls for Urgent Action on Soaring Rent Costs in Ghana

Dr. Collins Kankam Kwarteng, a lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University (KSTU), has added his voice to the growing concern over the recent hikes in rent costs, which are causing significant hardship for Ghanaian youth.
Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show, Nyansapo, on Monday, Dr. Kwarteng emphasized the need for well-designed systems to address the issue.
He advocated for the economic use of land in the country, highlighting the importance of proper land utilization.
Dr. Kwarteng argued that it is misguided for the government to allow landowners to sell vast plots of land to a few individuals, only to have them build a limited number of houses, thereby wasting valuable land.
He suggested that if the government is struggling to construct more houses, it should reconsider the allocation of large plots of land.
His comments come after some Ghanaian youth expressed concerns over the high cost of rent in the country.
Dr. Kwarteng stressed that the proper use of land, particularly in residential construction, must be re-examined to reduce the cost of rent.
