Ashanti Region to Enjoy Stable Power Supply- Energy Minister

The Ashanti Region, particularly Kumasi, has faced erratic power supply issues for much of the past year.

However, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon John Abdulai Jinapor, has assured residents that the region will now enjoy a stable power supply.

During a visit to the Manhyia Palace, accompanied by the Chief Executives of GRIDCO, ECG, and VRA, Jinapor explained that recent disruptions were due to ongoing work on a newly installed transformer. He noted that the issues have been resolved, guaranteeing a steady power supply for the region.

The Energy Minister revealed that GRIDCO has installed a new 145 MVA transformer, doubling its capacity to ensure reliable electricity delivery in the region .

This upgrade is expected to significantly boost installed capacity, providing a more stable electricity supply, particularly during peak hours.

Jinapor urged residents to remain patient as the government works to maintain a stable power supply. He emphasized that the government is not shedding the load, as there is sufficient power generation available. Ghana has even been supplying excess power to neighboring countries, including Burkina Faso, Togo, and Côte d’Ivoire.

However,Mr Jinapor acknowledged that challenges remain in terms of transmission capacity. In response, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II called on the CEOs of VRA, GRIDCO, and ECG to support the Energy Minister in his efforts to ensure success.

With the installation of the new transformer and the government’s commitment to maintaining a stable power supply, residents of the Ashanti Region can look forward to a more reliable electricity supply.
