Attorney-General engaging in media trial rather than ensuring genuine accountability – Richard Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has accused the Attorney General of lacking confidence in the evidence gathered against former government officials, opting instead for a “media trial” to damage the party’s reputation.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday (26 March), Ahiagbah alleged that the current administration, led by President John Dramani Mahama, is more focused on using legal mechanisms to tarnish the image of the NPP than ensuring genuine accountability.

According to him, “The Attorney-General lacks confidence in the supposed evidence he has to withstand the rigor of trial in the courtroom, or that the media trial is part of the government’s grand agenda to defame its political opponent, being the New Patriotic Party.”

He further claimed that the government has strategically placed individuals in security agencies to intimidate NPP members and create public disaffection towards the party.

“This administration has positioned persons like Richard Jakba and others in key positions within the national security apparatus to use all means necessary to harass and humiliate Ghanaians with impunity,” he stated.

Ahiagbah insisted that Ghanaians would judge the government not by its media narratives but by its actual performance, particularly in the areas of governance and economic management. He warned that any attempt to use legal and security institutions as tools for political persecution would ultimately fail.
