Lack of Active Water Hydrants Hampers Firefighting Efforts in Kumasi – GNFS

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has revealed that the absence of active water hydrants in Kumasi’s Central Business District significantly impacted their ability to combat the devastating fire outbreak at Adum PZ.
Despite facing challenges with inadequate fire tenders, the GNFS believes that nearby water hydrants would have enabled them to respond more efficiently.
According to Ashanti Regional Fire Commander ACFO II Peter Tetteh, firefighting requires sufficient equipment for effective delivery.
Tetteh appealed to stakeholders to ensure water hydrants are installed at strategic locations throughout the Kumasi Metropolis and surrounding areas.
Furthermore, Tetteh emphasized the importance of protecting the existing hydrants to facilitate effective firefighting.
This call to action comes amidst public concerns regarding the GNFS’s response to the Adum PZ fire incident.
The GNFS has been working to address these challenges, including linking fire hydrants to GPS for easy identification.
