‘It’s wrong to model Goldbod on 1947 COCOBOD Structure’” – Manso Nkwanta MP

The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Dr. Tweneneboah Kodua Forkuo, has cautioned against modeling the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) after the 1947 COCOBOD structure.

Speaking on the Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show Nyansapo, Dr. Forkuo expressed concerns about the GoldBod Act , emphasizing that the gold industry differs significantly from the cocoa sector.

According to Dr. Forkuo, the unique characteristics of the gold industry require a tailored approach that takes into account its specific needs and challenges.

He argued that simply replicating the COCOBOD model would be ill-suited for the gold sector and might lead to unintended consequences.

The MP’s concerns come amid ongoing debates about the GoldBod Bill, which has established a regulatory body to oversee gold trading in Ghana.

While proponents argue that the move will help stabilize the industry and increase revenue, critics like Dr. Forkuo are urging policymakers to carefully consider the potential implications.

The GoldBod Act has been a subject of intense discussion among stakeholders, with some arguing that it holds great promise for Ghana’s economic development.

However, critics like Dr. Forkuo are calling for caution and careful consideration to ensure that the Act serves the best interests of the country and its people.
