Nyinahin: One dead, three injured as soldiers open fire on mourners at cemetery

A tragic incident occurred in Nyinahin, Ashanti Region, where soldiers in a military vehicle opened fire on a group of youth heading to a cemetery to bury a friend.

The incident happened on April 24, 2025, around 11:00 am.
According to eyewitnesses, the soldiers, who were traveling in a vehicle with registration number 73 GA 39, stopped and confronted one of the mourners, Akwasi Lala alias Kushivi, 37, who was wearing a military uniform.

The soldiers demanded that he remove the uniform, and as he complied, one of the soldiers shot him in the head, killing him instantly.

The soldiers then fired indiscriminately into the crowd, injuring three others: Kofi Agyapong, 44; Alfred Kwarteng, 24; and Kofi Owusu alias Juve, 36.
The victims were rushed to Nyinahin Government Hospital for treatment.
The military vehicle failed to stop at nearby police check points and sped off.
The police visited the scene and retrieved 18 empty shells. The body of the deceased was deposited at the Nyinahin community mortuary awaiting autopsy.
The incident has sparked concern, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
