The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed that 10 suspected cases of Monkeypox (Mpox) in the Ashanti Region have tested negative.

According to Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, the region has not recorded any positive cases, but the health directorate remains vigilant.

Meanwhile, the GHS has confirmed 19 cases of Mpox nationwide, with five patients currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

No fatalities have been recorded.

Dr. Boateng described Mpox as a viral zoonotic disease related to smallpox, characterized by symptoms such as fever, headache, and skin rashes.

He emphasized that the disease is transmitted through close contact with lesions, body fluids, and contaminated materials, and urged the public to report any suspected cases to the nearest hospital.
