Galamsey: Gov’t to repeal LI 2462 after Parliament reconvenes

Spokesperson for the Lands and Natural resources minister Hon. Emmanuel Armah Buah, Mahmud Kabore has hinted that plans are far advanced for a bill to be laid in Parliament for the repeal of the LI 2462 to ban people from engaging in mining activities in forest reserves.

According to him, the move is expected to kick off as soon as Parliament reconvenes from recess on May 27th.

Speaking on Otec fm’s afternoon political talkshow Dwabrem, Mahmud Kabore stated that repealing of the LI 2462 is very important to the Mahama led government as they had promised during the 2024 elections campaign period.

He believes the move would not only save forest reserves but also restore the trust Ghanaians have in President Mahama should that promise is fulfilled.

Mr. Kabore added that the Lands and Natural resources Minister Hon. Armah Kofi Buah together with the Defence Ministry and other stakeholders have taken bold steps and initiatives to climb down activities of illegal miners especially those operating in the forest reserves.

“Hon. Armah Buah and relevant stakeholders have set up a joint security committee and since have been able to recapture 7 out of the 9 forest reserves which illegal miners had taken over and plans are underway to get the remaining 2” he told  the host Prince Nii Ade (Dok Cash)
