The outgoing Chief Executive Officer for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Professor Okyere Addai Mensah, has bid an emotional farewell to the staff, management, and board of the facility.

This comes after the facility welcomed a new Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, following his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.

In an official handing-over ceremony on Monday, May 5, 2025, Professor Okyere Addai Mensah said he lost friends and strained relationships in his bid to build a robust system for the hospital.

“We have had to take extremely difficult decisions, suspended people when they have come against the rules and regulations of the hospital’s disciplinary code,” he stated.

“I have not done this out of malice; I have never done that out of hatred for anyone. I had only one thing in mind, and that was to build a system that all will be proud of.” Professor Mensah added,
“I have lost friends, relationships have been strained, and the question is, am I proud of it? Certainly not, but I will do the same thing if I have the opportunity simply because there’s a price to pay in our bid to make the hospital better.”
Professor Mensah thanked all stakeholders and individuals who made his tenure a successful one.
He called on staff of the facility to support the new CEO, adding that it will take a collective effort to make the facility work.
Meanwhile, the new CEO, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, said he was stepping into huge shoes, making the work more difficult.
He, however, assured that he was guided by the fact that all staff and partners are ready to team up with him for the facility to move on.
Dr. Baidoo noted that Professor Addai Mensah’s legacy was one to remember, adding that he will do his best to emulate and even do more just like the outgoing CEO.
