Streetism poses significant threat to national security – Security Consultant warns

Renowned Security Consultant Richard Kumado says the high rate of streetism in Ghana is a threat to national security.

Children and adults alike who have resorted to living their whole lives on the street are on the rise in Ghana, with many calling on government and other stakeholders to find solutions to the problem.

Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show Nyansapo on Thursday hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng, Kumado said most of these street children engage in criminal activities due to their vulnerability.

He noted that these people end up forming criminal gangs to terrorize the neighborhoods they find themselves in.

“You live on the street and everything on the street, such people have no address and the possibility that they end up in criminal activities is very high,” he added.

“Such people can be recruited into criminal gangs, and the danger is that they have no address.”

Mr. Kumado emphasized that streetism is problematic, calling for pragmatic measures to either end it or reduce it.
