Suame MP blasts EOCO over Wontumi’s GH¢50m bail terms; calls it “outrageous”

The Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, Lawyer John Darko, has described the GH¢50 million bail application for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, as outrageous.

Chairman Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, May 27, after he reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning.

He was subsequently held at the EOCO head office in Accra.

He was subsequently granted bail of GH¢50 million with two sureties, both to be justified.

The embattled NPP chairman however failed to meet the bail application preventing him leaving the place.

Speaking on the Kumasi based OTEC 102.9 FM’s afternoon political show Dwabrem on Thursday, the private Legal Practitioner said EOCO is only stretching the bail application to keep the NPP stalwart for reasons known to them.

He warned that, any attempt by EOCO to keep their Chairman for more than 48 hours will not be tolerated.
