On Monday, May 5, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama formally declared two vehicles he had received as gifts and immediately handed them over to the state.

The declaration took place at the Jubilee House during a brief moment following the official launch of the Code of Conduct for Political Appointees, a new policy framework aimed at reinforcing ethical standards and combating corruption within the government.

The code outlines clear guidelines on gift declarations, conflict of interest, asset disclosures, and the use of public resources, marking a significant step in the Mahama administration’s drive to promote integrity and accountability in public office.

The handover was witnessed by a small group of senior government officials and presidential staff. The two gifted vehicles were seen being driven and inspected within the Jubilee House grounds before being officially transferred.

This move forms part of a broader effort by President Mahama to enforce strict asset declaration protocols.

Earlier in the day, the President issued a stern warning to political appointees who had failed to declare their assets, stating that they risk immediate dismissal if they do not comply by Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

Under the new directive, defaulting appointees will forfeit three months’ salary and will also be required to contribute one month’s salary to the MahamaCares Trust Fund, a newly established initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to individuals living with chronic diseases across the country.
