Parliament’s Health Committee hopeful after stakeholder meeting on GRNMA strike

Parliament’s Health Committee has expressed hope for a resolution to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). This follows a stakeholder engagement held to address the impasse between the striking health workers and the government.

Chairman of the Health Committee, Dr Mark Kurt Nawaane, described the meeting as fruitful. The discussions brought together the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, representatives of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, members of the Health Committee, and the leadership of GRNMA.

During the engagement, GRNMA representatives requested time to convey the outcome of the meeting to their leadership, including the Nurses and Midwifery Council, in order to gather input before reverting to Parliament.

Dr Nawaane expressed optimism that the posture of the GRNMA during the meeting suggested that Ghanaians may soon receive positive news regarding the resolution of the strike.

He made this known during a press briefing following the engagement.
