Professor Amankwaa Urges Caution in Implementing Free SHS in Private Schools

Former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwaa, has cautioned the government to ensure that private schools selected for the free senior high school program have adequate facilities.

Speaking on OTEC 102.9 FM’s Dwabrem show,on Monday, Professor Amankwaa emphasized the need for a conducive learning environment for both students and teachers.

The government announced plans to include private SHSs in the free SHS program on May 27, 2025, aiming to ease pressure on public schools and eventually end the double-track system.

While welcoming the move, Professor Amankwaa urged the government not to rush the policy implementation.

Instead, he recommended that the government ensures selected schools meet the necessary standards, providing students and teachers with the required facilities for effective teaching and learning outcomes.

This approach, he believes, will guarantee the success of the program and benefit all stakeholders involved.
