Samuel Pyne sues Media General, Ekow Darkoh (JB) For Defamation; Substituted Service Deployed

Ekow Darkoh (JB) Show Host at Onua TV, affiliate of Media General
Lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Samuel Pyne, have successfully served the Media General Ghana Limited and Ekow Darkoh, the Co-host of Onua morning show programme.
This followed the approval of the Accra High Court for a substituted service on the defendants following the unsuccessful attempts to serve them with writ of summons.
After trying unsuccessfully to serve the writ on the defendants, the applicant applied to the court to serve them through a substituted service which was approved by the court.
A search conducted by the applicant on May 25, 2025 at the court confirmed that the writ of summons and statement claim have been duly served on Media General Ghana Limited and Ekow Darkoh through substituted service.
However, at the time of the search, the defendants were yet to enter an appearance.
Suit
On March 3, 2025, Mr Pyne sued Media General and Emmanuel Darkoh at the Accra High Court for defamation.
He is seeking GHC10 million cedis in damages.
The applicant is also asking the court to compel the defendants to retract the said publication, particularly the offending words and a perpetual injunction restraining them and their agents and assigns from publishing the said words against the plaintiff.
It is the claim of Mr Pyne that on February 18, 2025 during the Onua Maakye, the morning show of Onua TV, the second defendant (Darkoh) made some allegations that he abused his office and dissipated government properties.
It is the claim of the plaintiff /applicant that the allegations of the second defendant greatly affected his reputation and reduced his reputation in the eyes of right-thinking members of society.
He is, therefore, seeking damages in the sum of GHc10 million and an order to perpetually restraining the defendants from publication of the said defaming words against him.
