Thousands Mourn Late Asante Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II

Thousands of mourners have gathered in Asante Mampong to join the burial rites of the late Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

The Occupant of the Silver Stool was laid in bed on Saturday, June 7, 2025, following a vigil on the preceding Friday, allowing mourners from around the world to pay their last respects.

The event, known as “Dotieyie” in Asante culture, is a traditional activity reserved for the burial of  renowned chiefs and queens in the Kingdom.

The four-day event, which began on Friday, June 6, 2025, is expected to conclude on Monday, June 9, 2025, with the final burial rituals.

Asantehene’s Visit to Mampong

Chairman of the event’s planning committee, Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II, in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Sunday, revealed that the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will join the Asante Mampong Traditional Council on Monday.

He noted that Otumfuo’s visit will mark the climax of the traditional arrangements, paving the way for the burial rituals.

“We all know Daasebre is the second in command to the Asantehene; basically, this whole arrangement is done in accordance with the direction and advice from the Asantehene, whom we all serve,”

 Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II stated.

“Together with the Asante Mamponhemaa, Nana Agyakomaa Difie II, we have gone according to the instructions of the Asantehene, and we are grateful he will personally join the event to mourn Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.”

Ejurahene Barimah Osei Hwedie II hailed all individuals and groups who have joined the traditional council in this trying time to mourn with them.

He emphasized that the traditional council will strictly adhere to Asante traditions and culture to ensure the event’s success.
