Proprietress urges parents to prioritize children’s education over material luxuries

The Proprietress of Royalton International School, Mrs Judith Oteng Marfo, has called on parents to place greater value on their children’s education rather than material possessions.

She emphasized the life-changing power of education, stressing that no amount of luxury can replace the foundation that proper schooling offers children.

“It is disheartening,” she noted, “to see some parents invest in expensive phones, flashy clothing, and social events while negotiating or delaying school fees,” she noted.

“We cannot claim to love our children while neglecting their most powerful tool, which is education,” she emphasized.

Mrs Judith Oteng Marfo said this when addressing pupils, parents, and dignitaries at the school’s graduation, and speech and prize-giving ceremony at Kotwi in the Ashanti region, on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

In all, 25 children graduated from KG2 and class 6, to class 1 and JHS 1, respectively.

She urged parents to reassess their priorities, reminding them that what children become tomorrow depends on the choices made today.

“Let us invest in their books before our fashion, and attend PTA meetings before parties,” she stressed.

In conclusion, she congratulated the graduating pupils and encouraged all stakeholders to work together to secure a better future through education.

“By prioritizing education, parents and guardians can play a critical role in shaping the lives of the children and contributing to the development of their communities,” she stated.

Awards were given to hardworking children to encourage them and other children to strive hard, after a series of entertainments by the school children.

A GHC6,000 one academic year scholarship scheme was presented to Grade 6 pupil, Caleb Oti Tweneboah, for being the best pupil during an Abacus competition held during the graduation.

The competition was organized and sponsored by Brainiac, a Kumasi-based educational institution.
