Two members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo, have filed a motion for an interlocutory injunction at the High Court in Accra, seeking to stop the party’s upcoming Extraordinary National Delegates Conference.
The motion, filed on July 14, 2025, through their legal counsel, Agyemang Duah of CharisBrit Legal Consult, requests that the court restrain the NPP from holding the scheduled conference at the University of Ghana Stadium from July 18 to 20, 2025.
The plaintiffs argue that the conference should be halted pending the final determination of a substantive legal challenge they have brought against the party.
In court documents seen by this reporter, the plaintiffs claim that the organization of the conference is in breach of certain party procedures and could prejudice the outcome of the ongoing case. They are, therefore, asking the court to preserve the status quo until the legal issues raised are addressed.
The application, filed under Order 25 of C.I. 47, also asks the court to grant any further orders it deems necessary to ensure fairness and justice in the matter.
As of the time of filing this report, the NPP had not issued an official response to the injunction application.
The Extraordinary Delegates Conference is a major event on the NPP’s political calendar, typically used to deliberate on key party matters and make high-level decisions. Any disruption could have significant implications for the party’s internal dynamics, especially with the 2028 elections on the horizon.
