Frimpong Manso Institute urges respect for democratic values, security in Akwatia By-Election

The Frimpong Manso Institute (FMI) is calling on contesting political parties, security agencies, and voters to uphold the highest respect for democratic values, stringent security measures, and peaceful conduct in the upcoming Akwatia by-election scheduled for next Tuesday.

Given the notorious history of violent acts and security breaches that have marred previous by-elections, FMI notes that the Akwatia contest presents a critical opportunity for Ghana to chart a new course of democratic renewal.

While acknowledging that security standards in Akwatia are reportedly higher than in previous by-elections, FMI emphasizes that the true test lies in the effective prevention of and response to any security challenges by law enforcement agencies.

FMI said this in a press release on Saturday August 30,2025

With both the ruling NDC and opposition NPP showing strong determination to win, FMI expresses its hope and prayer that democracy and peace will emerge victorious in this crucial contest.

FMI’s appeal underscores the need for all stakeholders to prioritize peaceful conduct and respect for democratic principles to ensure a credible and successful by-election.
