Kumasi: Court remands woman for defrauding SHS Headmistress of GH¢560,000

The Atasomanso Circuit Court in Kumasi has remanded a 38-year-old woman, Priscilla Koduah, into police custody for allegedly defrauding a Senior High School Headmistress of GH¢560,000.

Priscilla, also known as Maame Kraa, is a former employee of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited but currently unemployed. Prosecutors say she lured the complainant into paying the money under the pretext of securing three auctioned vehicles and a travel visa — promises she allegedly failed to fulfill.

She has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and defrauding by false pretences.

During court proceedings on Tuesday, Apostle Chief Inspector Benjamin Moore Ankrah, representing the prosecution, told the court that the accused and her lawyer had given conflicting addresses, making it difficult for investigators to complete their work. He therefore prayed the court to remand her for one week to enable the police to finalise their investigations — a request the court granted.

Presiding Judge, His Worship Kwaku Baa Frimpong, also rejected a bail application from the defence, siding with the prosecution’s argument that granting bail could impede investigations, as more alleged victims were coming forward with similar complaints.

The court ordered the prosecution to complete investigations and file disclosures within a week. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Further investigations by our desk have revealed that Priscilla Koduah is alleged to have defrauded other individuals of amounts totalling nearly GH¢4 million (old currency: ¢40 billion).

She is also facing separate charges at the Tafo Circuit Court, where she has been remanded on two occasions. Although she was granted bail on a third appearance, she had yet to meet the bail conditions before the latest case, filed by the SHS Headmistress, led to her appearance at the Atasomanso Circuit Court.

Prosecutors say Koduah allegedly operates with an accomplice, Nana Yaw Stocks, who is currently in police custody. Stocks is accused of posing as both a National Security operative and an uncle to the accused in order to win the trust of their victims.
