Kwadaso: Police restore calm as gang fight leaves one in critical condition

Police have restored calm in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region after violent clashes between rival youth groups from Nwamase and Kokode left one man critically injured.

The violence erupted on Saturday, August 23, during a funeral at Agric Nsima when tensions flared between the two groups. A Nwamase native, identified only as Emma, sustained injuries in the initial scuffle.

Tensions escalated on Sunday when over 20 armed youths, alleged to be from Kokode, stormed Nwamase. The gang reportedly attacked Emma in his home with machetes, inflicting severe wounds.

He was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Another resident was also injured.

Assemblyman for Nwamase Electoral Area, Kofi Agyapong, described the incident as part of a long-running feud.

“This is a cycle of reprisals. We fear the situation could worsen if urgent steps are not taken,” he said.

The Suntreso District Police Command has since deployed officers to maintain calm and is set to engage community leaders to prevent further hostilities.
