
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Directorate has strongly condemned the arrest of Emmanuel Kofi Kwakye, a journalist with Wontumi Media, by masked men alleged to be National Security operatives.
The party describes the arrest as a “brazen act of intimidation” and an “outrageous assault on Ghana’s democracy and press freedom.”
The broadcaster was reportedly picked up by security Operatives following allegations against president John Dramani Mahama and some top officials of the governing National Democratic Congress NDC

Meanwhile in a statement signed by the party’s communications director Paul Kwabena Yandoh,on Wednesday, the NPP s blamed the NDC government responsible for the growing culture of fear, where state security is used to silence dissent and harass journalists.
The party demands the immediate and unconditional release of the journalist or his swift arraignment before a competent court if legitimate charges exist.
The NPP also calls for a full public explanation for the abuse of power and an end to state-sponsored intimidation and harassment of journalists and political critics.
The party urges civil society, the media fraternity, the diplomatic corps, and defenders of liberty to speak out against the creeping tyranny.
The NPP reiterates its commitment to defending freedoms and resisting attempts to drag Ghana back into fear and oppression.
