Asantehemaa Funeral: Sekyedumase Gyaasehene calls for preservation of tradition and unity

The Gyaasehene of Sekyedumase in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality, Nana Yeboah Asiamah I, has underscored the importance of upholding Asante culture and traditions as the nation marks the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Boateng (KOB) on OTEC FM’s special coverage for Asantehemaa’s funeral on Thursday September 18,2025, Nana Asiamah stressed that cultural preservation is vital for national identity and social harmony.

“Respecting Asante culture and tradition is essential because it preserves a rich heritage that has shaped Ghana’s identity for centuries,” he said.

He explained that the Asante kingdom has always thrived on values such as unity, communal living, reverence for ancestors, and respect for authority. “Honouring our customs—from festivals like Akwasidae to the role of the Golden Stool—not only strengthens cultural pride but also promotes social harmony,” he added.

Nana Yeboah Asiamah further urged the youth to embrace Asante traditions as a way of staying grounded in their heritage. “Upholding these traditions ensures that younger generations remain connected to their roots while fostering respect among diverse communities,” he noted.

The Gyaasehene’s remarks came as thousands continue to throng the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to pay their respects to the late Queen Mother, whose passing has drawn widespread cultural displays and solidarity across the Ashanti Kingdom and beyond.
