E&P takes over Black Volta and Sankofa Gold projects after years of delay

Indigenous mining contractors – Engineers & Planners (E&P) has taken over Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd and Upwest Resources Ghana Ltd, reviving the long-stalled Black Volta and Sankofa gold projects in the Upper West Region.

The acquisition, completed with the Registrar of Companies and the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that left the concessions idle.

With gold trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes as government seeks fresh revenue to shore up its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation.

E&P says it will audit and repay verified debts, secure funding, and fast-track mine construction — a shift that also reasserts Ghanaian ownership in a sector long dominated by foreign firms.
