Govt reassigns Minerals Commission CEO, names Isaac Tandoh as acting head

The Minerals Commission has announced a major leadership change, with Isaac Tandoh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Small-scale and Industrial Minerals, appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer effective September 16, 2025.

The announcement was made by Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Yusif Sulemana, on behalf of the sector Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, during a joint management and staff meeting on September 2, 2025.

The transition follows the reassignment of the current Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Martin Kwaku Ayisi, to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as Technical Advisor.

The Ministry said the move reflects the government’s recognition of Mr. Ayisi’s indispensable expertise in mining regulation, governance, and institutional reforms, which it intends to leverage more directly.

Mr. Tandoh, who takes over as Acting CEO, brings over 23 years of leadership experience in the mining industry. He has risen through the ranks to serve as Mine Manager and has worked with some of Ghana’s large-scale mining companies before joining the Commission.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Tandoh acknowledged Mr. Ayisi’s legacy, pledging to uphold the Commission’s values and drive its strategic objectives.

“I remain committed to building on the foundation laid by Mr. Ayisi and steering the Commission towards its next phase of growth,” he said.

Mr Sulemana commended Mr. Ayisi for his dedicated service, urging the staff of the Commission to remain calm, focused, and cooperative to ensure a smooth transition.

The Commission, in a statement, extended its best wishes to Mr. Ayisi in his new role and assured Mr. Tandoh of its full support as he assumes his new leadership responsibilities.
