Kumasi: Residents stop family from burying corpse near river in Santasi

Residents of Santasi Apire in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have prevented a family from burying a seven-year-old boy near a river in the area.
The family had dug a hole near the river in an attempt to bury their child on Saturday, September 6, 2025, but residents intervened, citing that the location was not a designated burial site.

Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, a resident Mr Bernard, who led the youth to stop the burial, said the family had not received prior approval from any authority in the community, making their attempt an illegal one.

He noted residents destroyed and covered the hole to protect the river.
The family has since been engaging with the community to obtain approval for a burial at a designated location.
The incident highlights the importance of adhering to community regulations and protecting environmental resources.
