President John Dramani Mahama, together with his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, joined scores of dignitaries at the funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, in Kumasi.

Kumasi came to a solemn standstill on Thursday, September 18, 2025, as the funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, drew some of Ghana’s most prominent figures to the Ashanti regional capital.

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, chiefs, ministers of state, lawmakers, former legislators, business leaders, and thousands of citizens also turned out in their numbers to honor the late queen mother. Their presence highlighted the national and cultural weight of the occasion.

In observance of directives from the Manhyia Palace, commercial activity across Kumasi was suspended, leaving markets and shops closed. The measure was to safeguard the solemnity of the funeral and provide space for the city to reflect on the queen mother’s legacy.

Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III is being remembered not only as a symbol of tradition but also as a unifying figure whose influence stretched beyond Asanteman. Elaborate traditional rites befitting her royal status are accompanying her final journey.

Meanwhile, security arrangements have been tightened throughout Kumasi as thousands of mourners continue to throng the Manhyia Palace to bid her farewell.
