Manso Nkwanta MP petitions presidency, over killing of Assembly Member

Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Hon. Tweneneboah Kodua

The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Hon. Tweneneboah Kodua, has petitioned the Presidency, Parliament, and three other ministries, calling for justice and accountability following the killing of an Assembly Member in his constituency by armed military men.

The Assembly Member for Manso Aboabo, Hon. Samuel Dankwa , was shot dead during a clash between youth from Mpatuam and security officers from the Asanko Gold Mines.

In his petition, the MP demanded an immediate investigation into the incident and for those responsible to be brought to book.

He expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic event, which he described as a heinous act of violence that strikes at the heart of democracy, security, and community dignity.

The MP highlighted that residents of the Manso enclave have long raised concerns over intimidation, molestation, and harassment by security personnel attached to the mine, creating a climate of fear and mistrust.

“I am calling  called for the suspension of all military personnel operating at Asanko Mines pending the outcome of investigations, full compensation for the bereaved families, and psychosocial support for the traumatized community members”. The petition said.

The petition also urges the Ministries of Interior, Defence, and Lands and Natural Resources, as well as the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, to take immediate action to investigate the matter, ensure accountability, and prevent future occurrences.

The MP’s petition emphasizes the need for a thorough review of the deployment of armed security in private commercial spaces and for the rights and safety of citizens to be respected at all times.
