Over 14,000 JHS graduates to write remedial for SHS placements – Dep National CSSPS Coordinator

The National Deputy Coordinator for the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), Abdul Rahman Mohamed Dimi, has announced that over 14,000 Junior High School graduates will need to take remedial courses before they can gain access to Senior High School.

Mr. Dimi explained that these students did not meet the required standards, having obtained an Aggregate nine in at least one of the four core subjects, which disqualified them from the placement portal and SHS entry.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, the Deputy Coordinator stated that this measure aims to ensure students are adequately prepared with a solid foundation for their secondary education.
“Data of students we had in our system currently stands at 60518 out of which 590,309 have qualified to be place in the various SHS,” he said.
Mr. Dimi clarified that the qualification criteria are in place to prevent students with weaker academic backgrounds from struggling in the more demanding environment of grammar schools.
“If you push a student who had Aggregate nine to those grammar schools, they will struggle to fit in, the academic environment is a build up to what they learned at JHS,” he added.
He also mentioned that remedial programs are available to help students achieve the necessary grades for SHS admission.
