A/R: 35-year-old man arrested for allegedly killing father over cocoa farm dispute

A 35-year-old man, identified as Joshua, has allegedly murdered his 65-year-old father, Mr. Kwasi Akoma, over a misunderstanding related to proceeds from their cocoa farm at Koben, a farming community in the Adanse Asokwa district of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Monday, October 6, 2025.

Some residents in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng said , the suspect and the victim had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute over the distribution of proceeds from the farm.

“The son had reportedly complained that his father had failed to give him his fair share of the proceeds, leading to a scuffle between the two”. A resident said.

They revealed that, during the scuffle, Joshua allegedly hit his father with a pestle to the head, resulting in fatal injuries.

“They have been fighting off late over a cocoa farm, the Son had complained the father has failed to give him his fair share of the proceeds from the farm,” a resident explained.

“This lead to a scuffle between the two, the suspect then hit the victim with a pestle, he was rushed to hospital but unfortunately died.”

The suspect has since been arrested by the police, and the body of the victim has been taken to the hospital pending autopsy and further investigation.
