Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah,Member of Parliament for Akim Oda
The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has responded to criticism from the Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyere II, over his stance on illegal mining in the constituency.
In a press release dated November 3, 2025, Hon. Acquah stated that he was simply doing his job by exposing the Municipal Chief Executive of Birim Central, Solomon Brako Kusi, for allegedly facilitating galamsey activities in Akyem Oda.
“I did not expect condemnation from the Krontihene for standing up for what is right,” Hon. Acquah said.
“Instead of calling for a thorough investigation, I was rather accused of sabotaging the MCE.”
The MP vowed to lay bare his findings and demand answers from all stakeholders regarding the alleged payment of fines by galamsey operators.
“In the coming days, I will lay bare all my findings and demand answers from all stakeholders as we pursue the legality or otherwise of asking galamsey operators to pay fines and be allowed to continue their destruction of our environment,” he stated.
Hon. Acquah called on well-meaning citizens, including traditional leaders, to join him in the fight against illegal mining.
“I believe in the power of our traditional institutions and the wisdom of our chiefs. Together, we can work towards a better future for our constituency,” he emphasized.
The MP urged the public to focus on addressing the menace of illegal mining rather than diverting attention from the real issue.
“Let us focus on addressing the menace of illegal mining, and the involvement of influential personalities including political apparatchiks, rather than diverting attention from the real issue,” he said.
