Asanko Gold Ghana launches community agricultural support project

The Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has introduced the Community Agricultural Support Project to boost farming in its host communities.

The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, aims to improve yields, strengthen technical capacity, and promote climate-smart farming practices.

The project is expected to benefit farmers in the Amansie South and West Districts, where illegal mining has become a growing concern.

Many farmers have abandoned their farms to venture into mining, attracted by the lucrative returns.

Dr. Isaac Kwakye, Sustainability Manager at Asanko Gold Mines, explained that the project seeks to improve the welfare of farmers and promote sustainable agriculture.

He noted that, farmers will be provided with technical and input support for sustainable farming practices

Officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture hope the initiative will prevent the neglect of farming activities and curb the trend of farmers turning to illegal mining.

Amansie South District Director of Agric, Millicent Aluah Ackah, expressed concern over the growing number of farmers abandoning their farms for mining.

She encouraged farmers to continuously team up with stakeholders on such projects to maintain good farming practices

Amansie South District Crop Officer, Benjamin Benim, also described the intervention as a game-changer.

He called on farmers to embrace this opportunity and improve their farming outcomes

Beneficiary farmers praised Asanko Gold Mines for the support, hoping it will revive interest in farming and improve their livelihoods.
