Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has outlined the government’s three key priorities for 2026 as consolidation of macroeconomic stability, acceleration of economic transformation and job creation, and strengthening the security and social sectors for inclusive growth.
Delivering the 2026 Budget Statement on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, Dr. Forson stated that the budget builds on the stability achieved in 2025 and channels it into action-oriented initiatives aimed at creating jobs, improving infrastructure, strengthening industries, and enhancing public services.
“Mr. Speaker, this budget moves Ghana from recovery to transformation, designed to deliver tangible results, reduce the cost of living, empower businesses, and create decent jobs,” he said.
He detailed the three priority areas:
- First, the consolidation of macroeconomic stability. We will maintain fiscal discipline, strengthen revenue mobilisation, and anchor responsible borrowing to ensure debt sustainability. We are determined to sustain single-digit inflation and ensure exchange rate stability to preserve the stability we have worked hard to achieve.
- Second, we will accelerate economic transformation and job creation. This will be driven by large-scale investment and job creation in energy, commercial agriculture, agribusiness, and road infrastructure, alongside flagship initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development Programme, and comprehensive land and natural resource reforms; and
- Third, we will strengthen the security and social sectors for inclusive growth. The government will retool the security services, modernise education, expand healthcare access, extend electricity to every community, and improve access to clean water and protect the poor and the vulnerable.
Dr. Forson reiterated that the 2026 budget seeks to move Ghana from recovery to transformation, with a strong focus on productivity, inclusivity, and shared prosperity.
“Together, they reflect Government’s unwavering commitment to make 2026 a year of progress, productivity, and shared prosperity for every Ghanaian,” he said.
The Minister added that the budget aims to deliver tangible results, reduce the cost of living, empower businesses, and create a more resilient economy capable of withstanding future challenges.
