The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has ordered the Ministry of Roads and Highways to pay all arrears owed contractors by the previous government before the end of December 2025.
The president has urged the Minister, Govins Kwame Agboza, to ensure swift payment of contractors who have raised certificates and have been audited before the end of Christmas festivities.
President John Dramani Mahama said this while cutting sod for a number of road projects in the Bono Region on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
“Some contractors worked under the previous government but received no money for their work, government owes some one million cedis, 500,000 cedis, these and because of this some have died,” he said.
“I have ordered the minister to raise one billion cedis and settle all these arrears before 2025,”
President John Dramani Mahama assured that any road contractor who has genuinely worked for the country will be duly paid for their work.
He pledged to continue all road projects the previous government commenced to ensure the state benefits from the funds already committed in the projects.
About the Sod Cutting
While cutting the sod, the president said every corner of the country will get its fair share of infrastructural projects by the government.
He noted the Bono Region is privileged to benefit from a number of road projects under the “Big Push” and these roads include; Sunyani Inner/Outer Ring Road, Catholic University – Alaska Road, Berekum – Sampa, Sampa – Wenchi and the Sunyani – Techiman – Wa road. The others are the Kyeremasu – Gambia road and the Atronie – Hwedien road.
