Voting has concluded in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) nationwide presidential primaries, with more than 211,000 delegates casting ballots at 333 polling centres across all 275 constituencies to select the party’s flagbearer for the next general elections.

The exercise was conducted under tight security and close supervision by party officials, with voting largely described as peaceful and orderly.
Counting and collation are ongoing, and early constituency results indicate former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken an early lead in many parts of the country.
At the party’s national headquarters in Accra, Bawumia secured 308 votes, ahead of Kennedy Agyapong’s 160, while the remaining candidates recorded single-digit tallies.
Bawumia also posted commanding wins in several constituencies, including Yabaga/Kubori (379 votes, unopposed), Effiduase Asokore (456), Sekondi (392), Bantama (454), Subin (515), Asawase (662), Tema East (883), Nsawam-Adoagyiri (707), Dome-Kwabenya (900), Ledzokuku (898), and Awutu Senya East (794).
Kennedy Agyapong, however, led in some strongholds such as Assin Central (495), Effutu (644), Gomoa Central (349), and Hemang Lower Denkyira (233). Dr Bryan Acheampong also showed pockets of strength, topping the polls in constituencies including Abetifi (665) and Nsuta Kwamang Beposo (378).
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyepong recorded comparatively lower numbers across most centres.
Party leadership has pledged transparency throughout the collation process, with final certified results expected after nationwide aggregation. The winner will lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
