Ibrahim Baba Bukari, popularly known as “Game Changer,” Bono East Regional Chairman of NPP
The Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ibrahim Baba Bukari, popularly known as “Game Changer,” has declared that he would be happy to lose his position as regional chairman if it results in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia winning the party’s presidential race and leading the NPP back to power.
According to Chairman Ibrahim Bukari, he would rather serve as a former regional chairman in a governing party than hold on to his position while the NPP remains in opposition. “I would rather be a former regional chairman in government than remain a chairman in opposition.”
Chairman Ibrahim Bukari, who is also a successful businessman and astute contractor, made the remarks while speaking on Movement TV on Friday, January 23, 2026.
Responding to a contributor on the programme who threatened to work against him at the regional level to ensure he loses his chairmanship position should Dr. Bawumia win, the NPP regional chairman said his personal ambition would never supersede the interest of the party.
“I will be very happy if Dr. Bawumia wins and I lose my position as Bono East Regional Chairman,” he stated. “The most important thing to me is the success of the NPP, not my seat.”
Chairman Ibrahim Bukari stressed that his overriding interest is for the NPP to win the 2028 general elections, insisting that party unity and sacrifice are critical at this stage.
“The NPP winning the 2028 elections is my best interest. I must put the party’s interest first before my position,” he said.
He further argued that the party’s chances of regaining power depend heavily on rallying behind Dr. Bawumia, describing him as indispensable to the NPP’s electoral fortunes.
“The NPP now needs Dr. Bawumia more than ever if we truly want to win power in 2028,” Chairman Ibrahim Bukari added.
The Bono East NPP Chairman’s comments have since sparked discussions within party circles, with many viewing his stance as a call for loyalty, unity, and selflessness ahead of the party’s crucial internal and national contests.
Chairman Ibrahim Bukari therefore urged party members at all levels to put aside personal ambitions and internal rivalries and instead focus on a collective effort to secure victory for Dr. Bawumia.
According to him, discussions about positions within the party should only come afterthe NPP has successfully rallied its base and won the presidential contest.
“This is not the time to be fighting over positions in the party,” he said. “Let us work together first to make Dr. Bawumia win. Once we achieve that, there will be time to think about various positions and roles within the party.”
He emphasized that unity, discipline, and shared purpose would be decisive factors in the party’s quest to return to power in 2028, warning that internal divisions could undermine even the strongest campaign.
Chairman Ibrahim Bukari noted that only a united NPP, fully committed to Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, stands a realistic chance of winning the confidence of Ghanaians and forming the next government.
