Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs
Former Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has thrown his full support behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a seasoned party man who has “paid his dues” and deserves the backing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to lead it into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on OTEC FM’s afternoon programme, Dwabrem, hosted by Prince Nii Ardey, popularly known as Dr Cash, on Wednesday, January 29, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region dismissed claims that Dr Bawumia is new to the party.
“Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not a new member of the NPP. Anyone who says so must rethink that position,” Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated. “He has served this party diligently for more than 17 years, and that record speaks for itself.”
According to the former Majority Leader, Dr Bawumia’s long-standing commitment, loyalty, and service to the NPP place him in a strong position to unify the party and lead it to electoral success.
“Dr Bawumia has truly paid his dues in this party, and for that reason, he must be supported to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 elections,” he emphasized.
Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted that leadership within the party should be based on experience, dedication, and proven service, stressing that Dr Bawumia embodies these qualities.
His remarks add to the growing internal party discussions ahead of the NPP’s future leadership direction as preparations gradually build toward the 2028 general elections.
